An interesting tale…
Wall Street Journeyman was an extremely in-depth look at the life of a man who was in love with money, and with making money. To partially quote Silvo Santini (the book’s author) money was this man’s best friend, the love of his life and at the same time it was also his most despised enemy.
In Wall Street Journeyman we, the reader, follow along in ‘his’ life as he goes through childhood with an abusive father. Somehow he still manages to be a child and enjoy some of the fun that comes with that stage of life. We then watch as he happily ‘leaves the nest,’ attends college, works hard at several unsuccessful companies until he winds up working in finance and then on Wall Street – almost by accident.
At this point he discovers that he has a rare talent for trading and we watch his successes start to pile up. But sadly, at this point, we also begin to see the dark shadow of his father’s abuse begin to rear its ugly head. Over time, due to the enormous amount of pressure and stress that comes with trading, this abusive aspect of his childhood emerges stronger and stronger until it finally costs him his high ranking position and the lucrative income it had so readily provided.
Not surprisingly he lands on his feet – he isn’t one to lie down and let adversity roll over him. Unfortunately though, he winds up working with shadier and shadier companies until one day he finally realizes that he’s lost his obsessive love for money. He’s grown bored with the endless tedium of the market and now wants only to kick back and enjoy what is left of his life with the people who matter most to him.
In closing, if you can handle all the constant Wall Street jargon, you will discover that Wall Street Journeyman is actually a good book with an interesting life story.
