A fun adventure read…
Having read The Atlantian Chronicles: Atlantis Rising by author Gary English – I’m delighted to announce that it was good. This was a book I chose to read because I’ve always been drawn to the lore of Atlantis. I will also confess that (in reading the introduction) I became concerned that this book might be overly explained, or long-winded and uninteresting. Thankfully, that small niggling worry was quickly laid to rest.
The Atlantian Chronicles: Atlantis Rising begins its tale on a colossal oil rig located in the Atlantic Ocean. A helicopter bearing some company executives has just arrived. They are given the quick, guided tour and then they retire to their respective rooms to shower and recuperate from the trip to the rig. Suddenly, out of nowhere the rig is hit by a massive tidal wave. While it does remain standing, miraculously somehow still attached to the seabed, it has suffered serious damage. However, during this massive wave, the rig’s helicopter (the only way to reach land sans swimming) plummeted into the depths of the sea…
Employee training kicks in and the rig’s crew begins bustling about – determining the extent of the damage and verifying that there has been no loss of life. Around this time, some of the crew members inside the rig’s control room notice an odd looking path of glowing water not far from their structure. The men watching this phenomenon are certainly familiar with bio luminescent sea life, but this is unlike anything they have ever seen. The especially eerie part is that this path of glowing water is rising to the surface, and at the same time, it’s closing in on their location.
I don’t want to provide more of the plot, but what follows throughout the remainder of The Atlantian Chronicles: Atlantis Rising is an interesting tale. It seems as though English has taken some of his life experiences, and successfully combined them with the Atlantis legend to craft a book that’s well worth reading. I appreciated the realism and knowledge he was able to impart to this story, since that’s an important part of making any adventure and/or science fiction book more believable. Author, Gary English writes his story well and he remembers to pay attention to the minute details.
In summary, The Atlantian Chronicles: Atlantis Rising was a fun read. (Although I’m hopeful that there’s a sequel in the works to tie up loose ends, or maybe to allow proof that this book’s ending turned out differently than expected).
