Heartbreakingly Real, 5 Stars…
I recently came across the book Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch by Alma H. Bond, Ph. D., and I was immediately compelled to request it for review. I mean really – who wouldn’t? Who among us, knowing about the tragic death of one of world’s biggest superstars, a larger-than-life beauty of a woman who was way ahead of her time, would not be at least curious about this title? I received my copy several days later, and I immediately sat down to read.
Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch is a fictional tale in the sense that author, Alma H. Bond, Ph.D, took well-known and documented facts about Marilyn Monroe and then penned a riveting look at a three year period of ‘psychiatric sessions’ with Marilyn. Even though this book only spans three years, these ‘sessions’ discuss the entirety of Norma Jean Mortenson’s (aka Marilyn Monroe’s) turbulent existence; from early childhood until that final, fateful, communication.
Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch is written in a first-person dialogue – as Dr. Darcey Dale, a psychoanalyst in New York City followed by the many ‘recountings’ of Marilyn Monroe. In Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch, the reader will get to experience: Marilyn’s perturbing, shocking and painful childhood, her aspirations of becoming a famous movie star, and her dream of someday finding someone who would truly love her.
Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch is a heartbreakingly ‘real’ look at an iconic woman. This book is written with a true, and compassionate, understanding that sometimes only a trained (and very experienced) psychologist can provide.
If you’re a Marilyn Monroe fan then you’ve no doubt already read many books and biographies about her. However, Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch is definitely not one to be missed. Marilyn Monroe: On the Couch is riveting, surprising, touching and in the end it will break your heart… A ten star read, but sadly I’m only allowed five.
