A Day in the Life of Marilyn Levinson — Author of:

The Devil’s Pawn

Marilyn Levinson, Devils PawnMy cat Sammy often wakes me up some time between 5 and 7 in the morning. I go downstairs to feed him, then go back to sleep until 8 o’clock. Three mornings a week I attend my aerobics class at 9:30. When I return home, I go through my many emails. Ninety per cent of them concern the world of books—advertising books, promoting books, publishing books, and the craft of writing books. I skip through most of them, but it’s a rare day that I don’t come upon a free opportunity to promote my books, be it a notice from one of my publishers or an offer from a fellow writer to be a guest on his/her blog. I try to get to my Facebook postings and to Twitter, but not as often as I’d like.

After lunch I run an errand or two, then I settle down in my computer chair and get to work. I write in three genres — mystery, romantic suspense, and books of kids—and I’ve books requiring various aspects of attention. Right now I’m in the middle of writing the sequel to my ghost mystery, Giving Up the Ghost. I’m finding this work in progress more complex than I’d expected, and I’ve have to backtrack to make some revisions concerning events that took place six years before my novel begins. I’m also going over a romantic suspense that I’ll be sending to one of my publishers. Most demanding is my latest book, a YA horror called The Devil’s Pawn. Between writing posts and interviews for my blog tour and guest blogs and taking part in a few radio shows, I promote on Facebook and Twitter as best I can.

After dinner I settle down in front of the TV to watch some of my favorite shows. I might work on the sweater I’m knitting for my granddaughter or do a few Sudoku puzzles. I try to fit in a half hour of reading before going to sleep. And yes, I admit that I often return to my computer to check out the Kindle Nation Daily eBook Tracker to see how my books have done for the day.

What a nice post! Your typical day sounds lovely, Marilyn. As one who currently juggles a day job, I look forward to focusing on writing only and getting emails that concern the book world. And The Devil’s Pawn sounds intriguing – a good Halloween read!
