Charline Ratcliff Reviews: ‘Kick Assitude’ by Trish Jackson

A fun edition to Jackson’s Redneck P.I. Adventure Series…

Kick Assitude, Trish Jackson

Being that I sincerely enjoyed reading Capricorn Cravings by author Trish Jackson, I decided that I’d also read her another of her books: Kick Assitude. From everything that I’d read, this title seemed to promise a fun read; and being an animal lover, I also couldn’t not read a tale which included a pig named ‘Piggy-Sue.’

Several weeks ago, while on a five hour fight, I was finally able to open Kick Assitude and ‘relax with a good book.’ And it was a good book too; fun, interesting and boasting an unsolved murder case for all you mystery lovers.

Premise: Twila Taunton has finally returned to the town of Quisby, Alabama after being away for several years. Having recently discovered her potential as a Private Investigator, she decided to return and open her own P.I. firm.

Growing up in Quisby, Twila knows the town is rife with unsolved cases from way back when. She’s also certain that she can successfully provide P.I. aid to the Quisby Police Department, the Attorney Firms as well as the local individuals. However, Twila has a ‘hidden’ agenda too. She yearns to uncover the truth behind her mother’s unsolved murder; to see the killer caught and justice for the crime meted out.

As Twila investigates the murder, she keeps finding clues that seem to point to it having been part of larger, more sinister activities; activities that certain unknown-to-her individuals are intent on keeping hidden. After receiving multiple, variously phrased, death-threats Twila realizes that she needs to change her strategy; otherwise she too may wind up in an early grave.

And that’s all I’m giving you… If you enjoy detective/murder mysteries/thrillers then chances are that you’ll enjoy Kick Assitude. Jackson has always had an easy-to-read writing style, and in this book (true to form) she’s also created characters that are quite relatable. After all, who doesn’t have (or hasn’t had) that cantankerous parent/grandparent, the wild and/or crazy non-parental family member? Who hasn’t at some point in their life run into that overly secretive person; the one that makes you question what ‘dark’ deeds they are capable of committing? And, ‘Piggy-Sue aside, what pet owner hasn’t experienced and/or shared a life with that ‘too intelligent for their own good’ four legged member of the family…

In summary, Kick Assitude is a fun and interesting sequel to Jackson’s Redneck P.I. Adventure Series. I look forward to reading the future books in this series.
